Open when you want. Sheltered when you need.

Retractable vinyl patio enclosures for seasonal comfort

A covered patio can be inviting until a cool breeze cuts the evening short. Retractable vinyl adds flexible side shelter, then rolls away when you want open air. EDG helps decide whether vinyl, mesh, or glass belongs around your space.

Side shelter that does not have to stay down

A motorized vinyl enclosure uses flexible panels guided at the sides, with a housing above each opening. Lower them for a more sheltered seating area, then raise them to reconnect the patio with the yard. Clear-view sections can preserve sightlines while the panels are down.

This is a seasonal outdoor enclosure, not an insulated, conditioned room or storm-protection system. The roof, floor, ventilation, exposure, and any heating plan all affect comfort. EDG designs those details around the way you want to use the patio.

Three materials. Three different patio experiences.

Mesh for warm-weather airflow

Choose insect mesh when you want bugs out and the breeze in. Solar fabric adds shade and glare control. Both remain porous, so they suit a different goal than a solid seasonal side enclosure.

Vinyl for seasonal side shelter

Choose retractable vinyl when cool side winds shorten patio time, but you want the opening clear in pleasant weather. Clear vinyl keeps a view while creating a less porous barrier than mesh.

Glass for a rigid, movable wall

Choose glass when a rigid panel surface and a more substantial enclosure suit the space. Sliding or folding panels need their own track, support, and opening layout; they move differently from roll-up vinyl.

View and ventilation

Clear flexible vinyl has a different surface and appearance from rigid glass. EDG helps review the clear-view area, borders, and frame finish so the panel suits the view from your favorite chair. Seeing a material sample helps set that choice.

Lowering vinyl reduces airflow through the opening. Plan which sides can open for fresh air and how the patio will ventilate when enclosed. EDG also reviews moisture and condensation with any proposed heating arrangement.

Operation and care

Plan access to the yard, control locations, and separate panel operation before ordering. Furniture should stay clear of the travel path, and the housing needs to remain accessible for service. EDG sets up the controls and walks you through normal daily use.

Care belongs in the selection, too. Follow the cleaning and rolling instructions for the specified vinyl, use approved cleaning products, and keep the tracks and bottom-bar path clear. EDG explains weather and seasonal operating guidance with your installed system.

One option EDG can consider

Progressive retractable vinyl

Progressive offers vinyl within its custom motorized screen range, including screen and vinyl-window configurations. That gives EDG a retractable path to consider when visibility and side wind comfort matter. We select the panel layout, mounting, and controls for your opening, and compare it with mesh or glass before recommending the material.

Plan the enclosure as part of the patio

EDG reviews the cover, posts, floor transitions, drainage, power, and access before specifying custom panels. Our homeowner service includes design, needed permitting, installation, and care in the Chicago–Milwaukee corridor and the Sanibel area. If your structure already exists, start with our existing-patio screen guide.

For budget planning, review motorized screen pricing and glass enclosure costs. EDG quotes the selected material and the work your patio needs as one defined project.
