An addition that respects the architecture
Plan how the patio looks with the screens up
Glencoe has homes from many architectural periods. A slim modern roof edge and a porch with substantial trim offer different mounting opportunities. EDG starts with the lines and materials already there, so the screen hardware feels considered even when the fabric is rolled away.
A housing that fits the roofline
EDG checks space under the beam or ceiling edge for the rolled screen and service access. A surface-mounted housing can be coordinated with the existing finish. A recessed detail may be possible when the construction allows it.
Tracks aligned with the opening
We look for sound attachment along the sides and a clear path down to the patio. Columns, masonry edges, railings, and uneven floors all affect the detail. The finished trim needs support behind it, not just a place for a fastener.
Wiring planned before installation
The motor needs a suitable power route. EDG plans where wiring can run, coordinates any required electrical work, and keeps the controls convenient. We consider finished ceilings and walls early so the installation scope is clear.

Choose comfort without guessing at fabric
Bugs, sun, and privacy call for different choices
EDG recommends from multiple screen options. Tell us which issue matters most, then compare the material and layout that address it. You can screen selected sides or plan a complete perimeter where the covered space allows it.
Insects during dinner
Choose insect mesh and plan the complete screened perimeter, including entry points and the bottom of each opening. EDG checks how the screen closes around the patio so fabric selection and installation details work together.
Glare at the seating area
Solar fabric can reduce side glare that the roof does not catch. We compare the sun-facing opening with the shaded sides and the windows behind the patio, balancing comfort outside with daylight inside.
Privacy with a useful view
A denser fabric can screen a neighboring sightline, with a change in visibility and airflow. EDG helps compare samples for the times you use the patio, including evening lighting, rather than treating every mesh as a privacy fabric.
Local service from EDG
From the first visit to everyday use
We discuss your goals, measure the covered openings, and confirm the supporting structure and electrical path. EDG then brings the screen recommendation, finish choices, required review, and installation into one plan. At handoff, we demonstrate the controls and explain care for the selected system.

Coordinate review for the home you have
EDG confirms the permit scope with Glencoe's Development Services team. For a certified landmark, the proposed exterior changes may also need preservation review. We discuss the housing, attachment, and finish details early so they can be included in the project drawings.

Glencoe screen-retrofit questions
Will the screens disappear completely when raised?
The fabric rolls into its housing, reopening the patio. With a surface-mounted retrofit, the housing and side tracks remain visible. EDG coordinates their finish and placement with the home; recessed installation depends on the space and construction available.
Can a screen retrofit preserve my existing patio roof?
Often that is the starting point. EDG checks the roof or pergola for suitable attachment, opening geometry, track space, and power. If it already provides the overhead coverage you want, screens can address comfort from the sides without designing a new roof.
Does landmark status change how a Glencoe screen project is reviewed?
It can. Exterior changes to a certified landmark can require a certificate of appropriateness under Glencoe’s preservation process. EDG confirms the property status and proposed attachment, housing, and finish details with the Village before finalizing the work.
Can mesh screens make my porch a year-round indoor room?
Mesh screens help with insects, glare, privacy, and everyday side comfort, but they do not provide an insulated wall. If weather enclosure is your main goal, EDG can discuss a different material or enclosure approach. We explain the selected screen’s operating limits and seasonal care.
